Project Manager:

About BOFIN: BOFIN (British On-Farm Innovation Network) works collaboratively with farmers, researchers, and industry partners to deliver practical, farmer-led research and innovation projects. Through on-farm trials, collaborative research, and knowledge exchange, BOFIN supports innovation that improves agricultural systems and delivers practical value to farmers.

Role Purpose: The Project Manager is responsible for leading the execution, coordination, and successful delivery of BOFIN projects. This includes managing project timelines, deliverables, stakeholder relationships, risks, reporting, and triallist coordination to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in line with funding and organisational requirements.  The role requires strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently manage at least one project with minimal oversight while working collaboratively across internal teams, farmers, researchers, and external partners. The Project Manager will play a key role in maintaining high standards of project delivery while supporting the continued growth of BOFIN’s collaborative research network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of BOFIN projects, ensuring activities progress on time and in line with project objectives.
  • Coordinate trialists, project partners, and stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact and supporting communication, protocol delivery, and data collection activities.
  • Manage project plans, reporting, documentation, meetings, risks, actions, and project communications to support effective project delivery.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with farmers, researchers, funders, and industry stakeholders, representing BOFIN at relevant events and activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of BOFIN project management processes and contribute to future project development opportunities.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience managing or coordinating projects with multiple stakeholders and deliverables.
  • Ability to independently manage projects and prioritise competing demands.
  • Strong organisational and project planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience coordinating external partners, teams, or clients.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Experience managing risks, issues, and project dependencies.
  • Ability to prepare reports, maintain accurate records, and track project progress.
  • Confident using project management and collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience within agriculture, research, innovation, or farmer-led projects.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g. Agile, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
  • Experience working on grant-funded or collaborative research projects.
  • Experience supporting budgets, contracts, or reporting requirements.
  • Project management qualification or relevant training/experience.
  • Understanding of on-farm trials or agricultural research delivery.
